6 Ideas To Help You Illuminate Your Outdoor Hot Tub

Your hot tub, without a doubt, is the focal point of your outdoor living space. If you truly want to take your spa installation to the next level, lighting is likely the answer. Most hot tubs have internal lights to illuminate the water, so you don’t necessarily need to add floating lights or another source of internal lighting. That doesn’t mean you can’t light up the landscape surrounding your hot tub. Not only is it practical for evening use of your spa, but the right lighting can add ambiance to your space.

Let’s take a look at some of the best ways to illuminate your hot tub.

1. Moonlighting

Moonlighting is a type of illumination that mimics the glow of the moon. Achieving this look is as easy as mounting soft lights on trees or the roof of a gazebo, pergola or veranda to shine down on your spa. The effect is subtle and shimmering yet stunning.

2. Landscape Lighting

Landscape lighting is similar to moonlighting in that it highlights specific portions of your outdoor living space. In this case, however, low-voltage lights are spread across a wider area and illuminate several focal points.

Lighting is used to illuminate trees, a garden or architectural elements near your spa. This keeps the lights off of your spa and out of your eyes while still illuminating the area it’s in.

3. Rope Lighting

Rope lighting is ideal for illuminating your hot tub, garden, deck or walkway. Whether you choose to line the base of your spa or run it around the perimeter of your patio, LED rope lighting is easy to install. While white blends naturally with its surroundings when not in use, you can achieve a more dramatic look by choosing colored lighting.

Whatever you do, don’t go light crazy. Choose one or two elements to highlight for best results.

4. Twinkle Lighting

A cost-effective way to brighten up your back yard space is with string lights. Also known as twinkle lights, they look marvelous strung above your deck, patio or spa. You can hang your lighting in straight lines or in a crosshatch or zig-zag pattern.

If your spa is framed by a gazebo or pergola, hanging white twinkle lights will add a touch of magic to your space.

5. Tiki Torches

If you’re going for a tropical feel, tiki torches are a great option for adding extra illumination. Choosing the right tiki torches is important. While there are a lot of cheap varieties available, we suggest opting for a higher quality version made of copper or brass. Not only are these more durable, but they are also safer too. That’s because they can be wired into your landscape, allowing you to use a bulb for light.

6. Flood Lights

If you have a large area to light up, floodlights will do the job. Floodlights are bright spotlights with a wide coverage range. They are typically used for brightening a large area. If you have a sizable deck or patio, for instance, floodlights might just be your best option. They are typically mounted to shine down from above.
